A history in the skies

Cranfield village is home to Cranfield RAF training airport, built in 1935 and used as a night fighter training centre during the second world war. Although the airport is now reduced in size you can still find ground run demonstrations of the English Electric T5 cold war aircraft being held here. The airport makes up part of the Cranfield University campus which was originally founded as a college of aeronautics.
