Travel back in time to the Old Town

As one of the best-preserved towns in the country, Amersham feels like a land where time stood still, especially in the Old Town where fascinating history rubs shoulders with quaint bars and shops. Some buildings date back to the 17th century, and look like they haven't changed a bit since. The actual town dates back to pre-Saxon times, but it was in the 17th and 18th centuries that it flourished. Today, these historic streets come alive with regular events like the annual Amersham Carnival.

Embrace the past in the museum

Learn more about the town's long and illustrious history at the informative and fun Amersham Museum. Items in the collection date back 2,000 years, while hands-on activities and regular events keep the kids entertained. The 15th Century building is worthy of a museum exhibition. It's the oldest in the area and also has amazing gardens filled with flowers and herbs that come alive with colour in the summer.

Out and about in the Chilterns

Amersham is ideally located to explore the Chiltern countryside through its walks starting in the town centre. Head to Little Chalfont Nature Park for plentiful woodlands and great picnic spots. If you're feeling more active join the Chiltern Heritage Trail on your bike. It follows quiet roads around places like Chesham and Chorleywood, with a special signposted route for families.
