Keep the kids entertained in and around Wendover

Amateur sleuths will love the Wendover Mystery Treasure Trail, a three-hour trail around the town to discover whodunit. Spend a few hours at the Bucks Goat Centre in Aylesbury, a friendly petting farm with a good variety of animals. Roald Dahl fans old and young will be captivated by the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Nearby Great Missenden, with its three hands-on galleries and over 40 interactive displays.

For history enthusiasts

One of the jewels of this picturesque town is the Red Lion pub, whose former guests include Oliver Cromwell and Robert Louis Stevenson. Just a few miles down the road is the Natural History Museum at Tring, which houses the private natural history collection of Walter Rothschild, and the Tring Local History Museum, with exhibits covering everything from prehistoric to medieval times to the two World Wars.

Parks and open spaces

Roam around the stunning Wendover Woods; on the far northern edge of the Chiltern escarpment, you can enjoy wonderful views across Aylesbury Vale. With designated cycle routes and waymarked trails, it's easy to explore the local wildlife without getting lost. And for those craving a bit more excitement, there's a great adventure play area in the middle of the forest. Spend a day at Coombe Hill; take a short walk to the Boer War monument then enjoy magnificent views of the Buckinghamshire countryside while buzzards and red kites fly overhead.
