Acute hospital care within a stone's throw of the Peaks

The only acute hospital in north Derbyshire, Chesterfield Royal Hospital serves more than 400,000 people. On-site facilities include a cafe, shop and pharmacy and there's lots to do in the surrounding area for visiting relatives. Chesterfield is most famous for its crooked spire and a visit to the parish church is a must. Puzzle at the spire from outside or take a tower tour for a closer look. The town has excellent markets, both indoor and outdoor, or you can catch a show at The Pomegranate or Winding Wheel theatres. Head to Chesterfield Canal for a breath of fresh air.

Around 20 minutes' drive away is the fabulous Elizabethan Hardwick Hall. Run by the National Trust, when the house is open you can explore the stunning interiors which include a famous portrait of Elizabeth I, or enjoy a walk around the beautiful parkland. Head west into the Peak District for Chatsworth House, where there's something for everyone with extensive grounds, a farm park and wonderful adventure playground for kids, plus the spectacular house itself and its manicured gardens.

Anyone with a head for heights will love the thrilling cable car ride up the Heights of Abraham, Near Matlock. Take a look at the show caverns and explore the charms of Nearby Matlock Bath, a Victorian �spa� town where you can have fish and chips by the river Derwent.
