Well-connected Bolsover

Bolsover in north east Derbyshire is a small town Near Chesterfield, home to the property of William Peverel who is considered to be an illegitimate son of William the Conqueror, giving a telling indication of its fascinating history. Bolsover Castle was built in 1613 and is a Grade I listed building. It overlooks the town and is known as a site of historical importance. The town is just 18 miles from Sheffield and 26 miles from Nottingham so has excellent city connections.

Retail therapy and tasty treats

Bolsover boasts a small handful of charming shops and eateries. Pick up some souvenirs or gifts from the antique shop or various craft shops, or head to the market on Tuesdays and Fridays. If you're feeling a bit peckish, there's a tasty Italian, casual coffee shop and a cafe serving sandwiches, cakes and cream teas.

The Beast of Bolsover'

Although it's a small town, you may be familiar with Bolsover for its key political export. Dennis Skinner of the Labour party has been the MP for Bolsover since the 1970s, and the outspoken member is affectionately known as "The Beast of Bolsover".
