Discover industrial Derbyshire in Clay Cross

Around six miles south of Chesterfield, Clay Cross is a former industrial and mining town which essentially grew as a location in the 19th century, after famous engineer and locomotive pioneer George Stephenson discovered iron and coal while developing a railway tunnel in the area.

Considering Clay Cross's closeness to Chesterfield, it is well worth seeing what the local market town has to offer. Top attractions including its parish church's famous crooked spire, which is the subject of many local legends including some that claim it was pulled out of shape by the Devil himself.
