Highcliffe Castle: an imposing gem

Although construction began on Highcliffe Castle in 1830, some parts of it are much older, having been built using large quantities of carved medieval stonework salvaged from a Benedictine abbey. The result is an imposing Gothic revival mansion, looming above the cliffs in the small town of Highcliffe Near Christchurch in Dorset. It underwent extensive restoration in the 1990s and is now open all-year-round to the public.
