East Grinstead - where counties collide

With its medieval high street and coaching inns, this ancient market town offers a wealth of architectural heritage. It's surrounded by the lush High Weald countryside and a fantastic network of footpaths and bridleways. Ride the Bluebell heritage railway

Hop aboard the vintage steam train that runs between East Grinstead and Sheffield Park. The journey takes about 40 minutes, and you can stop off at other stations along the route. Special themed events are held throughout the year, and on certain dates during the school holidays, kids can travel for just �1 each.

Watch thoroughbred horses - and llamas

Enjoy all the excitement of a day at the races at Lingfield Park. It's an all-weather course, so you can watch top flat-racing action throughout the year. To see animals of a different kind, take a trip to the Llama Park at Ashdown Forest. As well as llamas, it's got alpacas, reindeer and donkeys. You can even take a llama for a walk.
