History, tasty bites and shopping in Coulsdon

Coulsdon has excellent transport links to Nearby Croydon, so if you fancy taking it up a notch, you can head into the bigger town and sample its wide range of cuisines and edgy nightlife.

A French postcard

Fewer than 15 miles from Central London, Mayfield Lavender Farm in the North Surrey Downs.

Glowing with violet hues, it's worth trying to find the place to be swept away to the lavender fields of France's Provence - its picture postcard look ensure its regular place amid "top ten" lists of days out within reach of the capital.

It only opens in the warmer months, although a nursery and gift shop in Nearby Epsom Downs are open year-round.

A thrill-seeker's paradise amid tranquil landscape

The surrounding surrey downs are not just an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, they are also the perfect spot for some high adrenilin zorbing. Head to GO Zorbing London in Whyteleafe and take on its 140-metre downhill run.
