High tail it to Hainault

Nestling in suburban north-east London, Hainault lies less than 13 miles from the capital's West End. Most of the housing here was built after the Second World War, so it has a feel of a New Town. It's also a very leafy area thanks to its proximity to the Metropolitan Green Belt, Hainault Forest Country Park and Epping Forest. Being on London Underground's Central Line means it's easy to get around.

Hainault Forest Country Park: a rural idyll

Breathe in the clean country air in Hainault Forest Country Park, a site of special scientific interest. Once part of the Forest of Essex, it now contains open space parklands (featuring numerous public footpaths and a large lake), a golf course and Fox Burrow Farm, which cares for rare breed animals.

Hidden gems at Canary Wharf

While in Hainault, take a short trip to Canary Wharf, where there's far more than just high-rise buildings to see. The Museum of London Docklands covers the entire history of the area; there's also a reconstruction of a Victorian street and a place for youngsters to get hands-on with the past. There's also public art, retail therapy and a roof garden Nearby.
