Brixton Academy - music to our ears

Located in South London, this spectacular art deco building started life as a cinema and theatre in 1929 and still retains many of its original features. Thankfully, plans to demolish it during the 1970s and turn it into a car showroom were scrapped, and in the early 1980s it became the live music venue we know and love today. It's one of the largest non-arena venues in London and has hosted gigs by the likes of Bob Dylan, Sex Pistols, Iron Maiden and Madonna, as well as comedy act The Mighty Boosh.
