St Paul's - an icon for all time

St Paul's Cathedral in Central London needs no introduction. Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece has been an iconic landmark for well over 300 years and has survived plague, the Great Fire of London and the Blitz. Still a working church, services take place every day, while tourists can soak up its splendour, either independently or via guided tours. Its crypt is full of tombs of the great and the good, including Wren himself, as well as Nelson and Turner, and those with a head for heights can climb as far as the Golden Gallery, 85m from the cathedral floor, to sample panoramic views of the capital.

The Guildhall Art Gallery - a hidden gem in the heart of the City

A short walk from St Paul's, in the City of London, is the Guildhall. Art lovers will enjoy the adjacent gallery, one of the capital's best kept cultural secrets, which houses a wonderful selection of Victorian painting by the likes of Millais, Rossetti, Landseer and Constable.

Tate Modern - tomorrow's classics

From St Paul's, take a quick stroll over the Millennium Bridge to the former Bankside Power Station, now home to Tate Modern, the national collection of British and international art from 1900 to the present day.
