Tower above the capital in an iconic modern landmark

It's not as old as many of the buildings that put London's skyline on the map, but 30 St Mary Axe - affectionately dubbed 'The Gherkin' thanks to its distinctive silhouette - has rapidly become one of its most instantly-recognisable icons. Primarily an office building, there is also a bustling shopping and dining complex at street level, and refined dining on the upper floors offering stunning views.

Out and about in The City

The Gherkin is located in the financial district of London, but there's plenty Nearby for those hoping to broaden their cultural horizons. The Whitechapel Gallery, a 10-minute walk from the Gherkin, is an excellent modern art gallery hosting some truly groundbreaking works. Old Spitalfields Market to the north, meanwhile, is perfect for shopping trips.

Live a little in London

The rest of the capital's many attractions are only a short hop via tube, bus or taxi, meaning everything from the London Eye or the National Gallery to The British Museum and London Bridge are all within easy reach.

Planning a trip to The Gherkin? Travelodge London Central Liverpool Street Hotel and Travelodge London Central Bank Hotel are both equally convenient, while the Travelodge London Central Tower Bridge Hotel is also close by.
