Take a terrifying tour in Aldgate

Aldgate, a district in East London, is a bustling part of the capital, full of cool cafes, busy offices and trendy bars. It's also an area with a dark and terrifying past, thanks to none other than Jack the Ripper. Today, you can follow a Jack the Ripper Tour every night, starting just outside Aldgate East Underground Station. The tours include expert guides following a route that will take you back in time as you learn what really happened when this notorious figure roamed the streets.

Gaze at awesome modern art

For a slightly less 'terrifying' activity, you can visit the Whitechapel Gallery. Found just a few minutes from Aldgate East Underground station, the gallery has been around for over a century. Today, you'll find incredible contemporary art from a range of talented artists on display, with unique exhibitions always taking place. The gallery is right at home in this artistic district of London.

Coffee, cakes and cafes

We told you Aldgate was full of cafes, and we meant it. Around every corner you'll find independent coffee houses and snack stops, serving a range of delicious food with a friendly atmosphere, at any time of day. Planning a trip to Aldgate? Our Travelodge London Central Aldgate East Hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Aldgate East and Aldgate tube stations.
