Priestfield Stadium, home to Gillingham Football Club since the club was founded back in 1893, is within easy reach of the wonderful green spaces Near to the Kent town. Riverside Country Park spans 100 hectares along the picturesque Medway Estuary, an internationally important nature reserve for wintering birds. Walkers come for the stunning views, while the play areas will keep little ones occupied on family days out. To the south of the town centre, Capstone Farm Country Park offers ancient woodland and a freshwater lake popular with picnicking families and local anglers.

Gillingham's history and heritage

The Kent town of Gillingham is home to a sprinkling of historic attractions and fascinating museums. Chatham Dockyard, which dates back to the 18th century and was once a centre for military shipbuilding, is now home to a brilliant museum and exhibits - and you can even climb aboard a destroyer warship to experience naval history first-hand. The Royal Engineers Museum is home to the renowned Harrier jump jet, as well as family-friendly interactive exhibitions for younger visitors.

With direct trains from Gillingham to London St Pancras, you can be exploring the regenerated King's Cross area in just 45 minutes. Enjoy a stroll along the historic Regent's Canal, or take in Granary Square, with its handsome industrial architecture. There are a sprinkling of fine restaurants, as well as the House of Illustration, a must for lovers of art and design.
