Visit the largest non-league stadium in the country

It's home to a non-league side, Tranmere Rovers, but also plays host to Liverpool FC Reserves, Prenton Park is a surprisingly large and well-equipped stadium. Seating almost 17,000, but with a record attendance of over 24,000 in 1972 (before it became an all-seater stadium), it's capable of producing a dizzying atmosphere - on the occasions it attracts a decent crowd.

Shop till you drop in Birkenhead

Elsewhere in Birkenhead, there's plenty to do - not least several bustling shopping locations. The Pyramids is an excellent shopping centre in the heart of the town, boasting over 100 stores from big chains to small independents. Rock Retail Park to the east is also worth checking out.

Enjoy the sights and sounds of Liverpool

Liverpool city centre is just four miles away across the Mersey, and the 2008 European Capital of Culture and the birthplace of The Beatles has much to recommend it. Among the highlights are the Cultural Quarter - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - and its many museums. In fact, Liverpool boasts more museums and galleries than any other UK city, after London.
