Things to do Near Newton Mearns
Just seven miles from the centre of Glasgow with its many fantastic bars, restaurants museums, parks, theatres, and sporting venues, and close to the M77 for easy access to the Ayrshire Coast, the town of Newton Mearns provides an excellent base from which to explore everything that the lowlands have to offer.
The great outdoors
Spend the day at Rouken Glen Park - 143 acres of award-winning family-friendly space, with kids' play areas, a skate park, visitor centre, walled garden and lovely cafe. Or take a stroll around Pollok Country Park, with its wide range of terrain and landscaping - from yew hedges and herbaceous displays to tropical plants in the glass houses; explore the Woodland Garden and Woodland Trail, nose around the kitchen gardens, or let the kids burn off some steam at the playground and on the orienteering trail.
Places of interest
Visit Mearns Castle, a category A listed building built by Lord Maxwell in the 15th century. Now restored, it's part of the Maxwell Mearns Castle Church. Discover Whitelee, Europe's largest wind farm, and learn all about renewable energy through fantastic interactive activities.
