Innovation at the University of Strathclyde

For a great location in a lively, friendly city, it's hard to beat the University of Strathclyde in the heart of bustling Glasgow. Specialising in technology, this pioneering university is internationally recognised for its work in the field of research and innovation. Inventor of the TV John Logie Baird studied here, as did medical pioneer and explorer David Livingstone.

Explore Merchant City

The university is Near Glasgow's cultural quarter, where former tobacco merchants' warehouses have been turned into chic boutiques, bars, restaurants and loft apartments. It's a lovely area to walk around, with some excellent eateries. If you like spicy food, be sure to stop off for an amazing curry at KoolBa.

Merchant City is also where you'll find the Gallery of Modern Art. Its temporary exhibitions feature cutting-edge work by local, national and international artists. It'll certainly get you thinking.

Take your pick of live music venues

You're spoilt for choice for gig venues in Glasgow. Opened in 2013, the 13,000-capacity SSE Hydro hosts some of the world's biggest acts, from Justin Bieber to Neil Diamond. King Tut's is where Manchester band Oasis were first discovered, while the Barrowland Ballroom is an iconic acoustic venue that has hosted the likes of U2 and Simple Minds.
