Sweeping views across the Severn

Lying on the coast just outside Bristol, this historic fishing port offers a chilled-out haven away from the bustle of the city. It's so cool there's even a band named after it. The main focal point is the trendy marina, where all manner of boats jostle for position in the harbour. There are plenty of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a coffee or glass of wine while watching the world drift by.

Relax by the lido and lake

Running along the esplanade, the Lake Grounds area is a lovely place to relax. In summer, you can take a dip in the open-air pool, row across the lake or play frisbee on the grass. Sitting above the lake is Battery Point, where guns were once stationed to defend the Severn Estuary from enemy attack. These days it's one of the best spots to take in the views over the river across to Wales.

Explore Bristol's shopping scene

Buses go regularly from Portishead to the centre of Bristol and The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, where you'll find all your high street favourites, including H&M, Gap and Next. The town is also very close to the M5, giving you easy access to the rest of Somerset and the South West. Looking for accommodation in Portishead? Travelodge Portishead is right by the marina. Our Bristol Cribbs Causeway and Bristol Central hotels are about 7 miles away, handy for all the local attractions.
