Football's spiritual home?

Sheffield's oldest stadium, Bramall Lane, went down in history in the 19th century when it hosted the world's first football tournament final. It replicated that feat some time later, when it held the first floodlit match in 1878. To this day it remains the oldest football stadium in the world still to be hosting matches.

Explore the Steel City

Sheffield United's nickname - the Blades - hints at Sheffield's industrial past as a steel manufacturer. These days, however, the city is more of a cultural hotspot and the only Crucible you're likely to find is the famous theatre. The music scene - and, by extension, the nightlife in general - is vibrant and exciting, with a large number of pop and rock bands all hailing from Sheffield.
