Steel yourself for a trip into Sheffield's industrial past

For over thirty years, Kelham Island Museum has been around to showcase Sheffield's special heritage. In that time, much has changed - but these exhibits constantly evolve to keep up. The interactive galleries display everything from the work of skilled artisans to the mass production of global steel and other trades from the Industrial Revolution to the present day.

Experience the power of the River Don

The mighty River Don Engine is the biggest and most powerful working steam engine in Europe, and it's the jewel in the crown of Kelham Island Museum's collection. Visitors can see the behemoth in action twice a day Monday to Thursday, and three times on Sunday. It really must be seen to be believed.

Take in the sights and sounds of Steel City

Sheffield may no longer be an industrial boomtown, but there's plenty going on. The Crucible Theatre hosts everything from national plays to the Snooker World Champinships, the Motorpoint Arena has some of the biggest gigs in Yorkshire, and the Nearby Tropical Butterfly House has expanded to rival most zoos with animals ranging from lizards to lemurs and beyond. Planning a trip to Kelham Island Museum? Travelodge Sheffield Central is the most convenient option, while Travelodge Sheffield Richmond Hotel lies to the east just off the A630. Travelodge Sheffield Meadowhall Hotel, just off the M1, is great if you're planning a bit of shopping, too.
