Hednesford - gateway to Cannock Chase

Nestled on the fringes of the sprawling Cannock Chase Forest, this small Staffordshire town offers scenic walks, amazing mountain bike trails and Go Ape! treetop adventures.

In Hednesford itself, the free Museum of Cannock Chase showcases the area's rich mining heritage. There's also a hands-on toy gallery and 1940s room highlighting domestic life during World War Two.

Hot rods at Hednesford Hills Raceway

Get revved up for stock car and banger racing at this motor racing circuit just outside the town. It's the fastest quarter-mile oval in Europe.

Big events include the National Championship Weekend, Crash Cavalcade and the Civil War, the biggest head-to-head Demolition Derby in the country. The venue also holds an impressive firework display every November.

Adventures at Beaudesert Activity Centre

Get active at this outdoor pursuits centre in Rugeley. It's great for family days out, birthday parties and team-building exercises. Take aim for archery lessons, abseil down a quarry, climb trees, swing on high ropes and coracle on the water. There's also crazy golf, pond dipping and a sensory trail in which you're blindfolded and have to feel your way around.
