Animal magic in Rugeley

Perched between Lichfield and Stafford, this former mining town is well placed for exploring everything Staffordshire has to offer. Thanks to its great transport links, you've got a host of day trip options. You can be in the centre of Birmingham in around 50 minutes by train and Stoke-on-Trent within 20 minutes by car.

Sing and swing in Cannock Chase

Rugeley is a great stopover if you're attending a Forest Live concert in Cannock Chase Forest as it lies on the edge of this vast woodland. The rugged terrain also makes it ideal for hiking and mountain biking. There's a Go Ape here too. Tackle zip wires and Tarzan swings, and Segway through the forest.

See where Santa keeps his reindeer

If you're visiting at Christmas time, don't miss the Blithbury Reindeer Lodge, which transforms into a winter wonderland from November, complete with elf school, twinkly lights, roaring log fire and herd of reindeer. To see animals of a different kind, head to the great-value Animal Zone at South Staffordshire College's Rodbaston Campus, where you can find everything from meerkats to monkeys. Looking for accommodation in Rugeley? Travelodge Rugeley Hotel is right in the heart of the town. Another option is our Stafford Central Hotel, a 20-minute drive away.
