Things to do in and around Cuckfield

Learn about Cuckfield's cultural heritage at the Cuckfield museum; free to enter, it stretches right back to pre-history when dinosaurs roamed the area (one of the earliest finds of dinosaur bones in the world was in Cuckfield) through the Middle Ages to the modern day. If you're looking for a peaceful place to sit and think, the well-kept churchyard of the Holy Trinity Church is hard to beat.

Open spaces

The Nearby Bedelands Farm Nature Reserve comprises of 80 acres of ancient meadows, woodland, hedgerows and ponds, and is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. Visit Borde Hill, a beautiful Grade II English Heritage garden set in 200 acres of parkland with magnificent views across the Ouse Valley viaduct, plus a children's play area and cafe.

Interesting things to do

The kids will love Beech Hurst Park Miniature Railway, a half mile track with great views, featuring two tunnels, steaming bays where the mini locomotives are prepared for running, and a fully automatic colour light signalling system - just like the real thing. Discover the Wings Museum in Nearby Balcombe, a World War Two remembrance museum which provides a fascinating insight into life during the war; explore a complete plane fuselage, listen to the sounds of the Blitz inside a real Anderson Shelter, or experience what it was like to be a paratrooper on D Day.
