St Patrick’s Day Near You

On Friday 17th March a strange fever takes hold across the UK. A sea of green lines the streets and fills the pubs, glasses of strange black liquid are consumed at an alarming rate and people from all countries, all parts of this island, suddenly become… Irish.

I am, of course, talking about St Patrick’s Day. And whether you’re genuinely from the Emerald Isle or just joining in with this year’s celebrations, there’s plenty to keep you occupied across the UK.

So if you fancy staying relatively close to home (but avoiding the dreadful Guinness top hats at your local pub) why not take a look at a Travelodge near one of these wonderful St Patrick’s Day celebrations and make a night of it?

1. Try Brum for a brilliant St Patrick’s Day party

Started in 1996, the Birmingham St Patrick’s Festival is a key date in the calendar of any local.

The opening gala event is a sight to see, with Irish dancing and music (oh, and don’t forget the banquet of traditional food). This is one city that knows how to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Then the parade through Birmingham city centre takes place, with floats showing off every good part of Irish life in the Midlands.

If Birmingham’s St Paddy’s Day sounds right up your street, break out the green in your wardrobe and book a room in our Birmingham Travelodge – it’s sure to be good craic!

2. Make a date for the marvellous Manchester Irish Festival

If you want more than your average St Patrick’s Day celebrations then Manchester is the destination for you.

Not only does the party last from Friday 10th March to Sunday 19th March, but there are also loads of different events to keep you occupied throughout the two weeks. From Irish singer Damien Rice playing the o2 Apollo to the free Irish dancing display, you’ve got choices to celebrate your way, whether that’s by learning more about the city’s rich history or just dancing till dawn.

There’s also a St Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday 12th March, the same day Scotland faces Ireland in the Six Nations – sounds like one hell of a weekend!

3. Head to the capital for a St Patrick’s Day to remember

Sunday 12th March sees Trafalgar Square turn party zone at London’s annual St Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival.

You can expect fantastic Irish culture and arts, Irish music and dance and even a food market, so there’s plenty to make you forget it’s Monday the next day. There are also lots of themed activities for the kids, so this really is an event for the whole family!

Naturally, after all those celebrations you’ll need somewhere to stay, so why not make a weekend of it and book a room in a London Travelodge near you.
