More than two millennia ago, a heavily pregnant woman and her fiancé searched in vain for a room where they could spend the night. Unable to find one, the pair was forced to accept an innkeeper’s offer to share a barn with his livestock.
Everyone knows the story of the nativity, and many of us will also know how difficult it can be to find reasonably priced accommodation during the festive period. Fortunately, today’s Mary and Josephs will have it a lot easier this year.
This year, in the true spirit of Christmas, Travelodge hotels are continuing with our very own festive tradition of offering a free room to couples called Mary and Joseph during the 12 days of Christmas. The free night’s stay is just our way of making up for the hotel industry’s terrible failure of not having any rooms left on that fateful Christmas Eve over 2,000 years ago.
Available from Christmas Eve until the ‘Twelfth Night’ of Christmas (6th January 2013), couples named Mary and Joseph can choose from one of our UK based Travelodge hotels, staying in a sizeable family room with ample space for a baby in a manger, and a free parking space thrown in for their car/donkey!
Running for the last six years, this offer has grown into a major part of the Travelodge Christmas festivities. This year we’ve even had people emailing us about the offer since as early as August and, on average, we have about 30 couples named Mary and Josephs stay with us during the festive period.
