This year’s Imagine Children`s Festival is coming to The Southbank Centre, in Central London, from the 10th to the 23rd of February. Look forward to a jam packed line up of Children’s literature, dance, theatre and art. Be prepared for The Southbank to be taken over and transformed into an exciting and imaginative space for the young and old alike. Here are some of the highlights:
Dressing Up Days
Get out your glad rags and dress up on one of three themed days. During Topsy-Turvy Day on the 15th of February let your imagination run wild and get dressed inside out and upside down. Absolutely anything goes! On the 19th of February unleash your inner beast for Call of The Wild Day! Then, on the 22nd, time travel is on the cards. The Great Enormo Theme Park day will take you on a journey through the centuries as the roller coasters clock back the years, zooming in and out of space. Think cowboys, sailors and spacemen, princesses and pirates. You could even come as a dinosaur or an alien.
School of Rock
On Tuesday the 11th of February watch the battle of the bands as children take to the stage to rock out! This free event, is just for under 12s and will be an exciting mix of original music and exhilarating cover tracks. There will be workshops in the morning before the children play and then a vote will be taken to crown the winners of The Southbank Centre School of Rock!
Young Story Slam Live 2014
On the 12th of February roll up to see young writers fight it out in a literary battle. Semi finals will be held at schools around the country beforehand, so that on the day just 10 finalists will compete with a 3 minute story of their own creation.
Refugee Boy
The West Yorkshire Playhouse is putting on a production of Refugee Boy on the 11th and 13th of February, with tickets starting from £5. The poetic play tells the tale of Alem and how he awakes one morning to find himself in a strange country. He has become a refugee overnight and departs on a journey of arrival to find his true home.
Tube
If you have children between 6 months old and 2 years old then bringing them to see Tube will have them squirming with delight. Performances are on the 11th and 14th of February and a £12 ticket admits one adult and one child. Oily Cart has magicked up a multi sensory world filled with tubes to delight babies as they experience a kaleidoscope of colours, exciting sounds, puppets and much, much more.
