London’s Best Walking Tours

iStock_London.JPGLondon is a beautiful city and one of the best ways to get to know it is by foot. Wandering around, without a set aim can be great fun. Even so, there are also a number of fantastic guided tours available to suit all ages and interests. Here is our pick of some of the best:

Jack the Ripper Tour

The Jack the Ripper tour is a walking classic, guaranteed to leave you looking over your shoulder. The London Walks Jack the Ripper tour leaves at 7.30 every evening from Tower Hill tube and costs Ā£9 for an adult (children go free). Lead by Donald Rumbelow, who is considered to be the world authority on Jack the Ripper, the walk transports the audience back to the dangerous world of 1888 London. Here, the grisly, unsolved murders of Jack the Ripper will unfold and Donald will reveal his findings as you try to solve these ghastly crimes.

The Alternative London Tour

The Alternative London Tour, is a fantastic and free walking tour, leaving from Old Spitalfields Market, on most days of the week. Lasting about two hours, the tour will take you around the East End of London, showcasing the abundance of creativity in the area whilst providing information on historical and cultural events. Although this is not just a street art tour, you are guaranteed to see at least 40 different works of art by different street artists. The Alternative London Tour also holds a weekly Street Art Tour and Workshop, providing you with all the materials and know how to make your own piece of art work, inspired by the likes of Bansky and Jimmy C. The Sunday tour costs Ā£25.

Cupcake and Macaroon Tour

The sweet toothed amongst you might be tempted by Great British Tours Cupcake and Macaroon Tour of London. Starting opposite Covent Garden tube, the tour leaves Thursday to Saturday at 3pm and takes you around some of the yummiest establishments in London. The seven tastings take place at LaudurĆ©e, Cupcake Bakehouse, Sweet Couture, Hummingbird Bakery, Fortnum and Mason’s, Yauatcha and Patisserie Valerie. You will also get a chance to see the delights of The West End. The Cupcake and Macaroon Tour is normally priced at Ā£40, but offers frequently apply.

The Harry Potter Tour

Muggle Tours magical Harry Potter Tour is a must for any fans of wizardry. The calender is ever changing so you will need to book in advance and tickets cost just Ā£12 for an adult. The tour leaves from London Bridge and will guide you around London, pointing out magical places such as the entrance into The Leaky Cauldron and the alley that inspired Diagonal Alley. Unfortunately the tour can’t actually take you to Hogwarts, but this is probably as close as you will get in the centre of town. Not to be missed.
