Liam’s unforgettable year of travel: Meet 2023’s Big Summer Giveaway Winner

When Liam entered our Big Summer Giveaway last year, he never dreamed he would win it.

“I’d never entered a Travelodge competition before,” he recalls. “But, I thought ‘why not’. You have to be in it to win it.”

The news that he’d won a whole year of free stays was met with disbelief. “I was convinced it was a scam,” Liam laughs. “We were actually on our way home from a weekend at the Travelodge London Covent Garden hotel when we found out! Even after the official paperwork arrived, I was still sceptical. I’ve entered prize draws before that promise a year of free things, only to find out in the terms and conditions it’s just one item a month for 12 months—like ‘free pizzas for a year’ really meaning just one pizza each month. But this was different.

With this prize, it truly was an entire year of free stays— whenever I wanted to go away, I could.” Once reality sank in, excitement took over. “We were over the moon,” Liam says. “My wife was especially thrilled at the prospect of so many weekend getaways.” 2023 winner Liam has certainly made the most of their prize, embarking on everything from spontaneous weekend breaks to epic road trips.

“We’ve had some fantastic adventures,” Liam says. “As AFC Bournemouth season ticket holders, we used the opportunity to attend away games we wouldn’t normally consider. A highlight was taking our eldest granddaughter to see Frozen in London for her 4th birthday. We also did an incredible UK road trip, exploring the Lake District, Liverpool Albert Docks, the Cotswolds, and so much more.”

Among Liam’s favourite destinations are London (“We love it there”), the breathtaking Lake District, and the historic city of York. His favourite hotel so far? Travelodge London Vauxhall. “It’s a great hotel, right on the River Thames and just a short walk to Westminster.”

His advice to those considering entering this year’s giveaway? “Don’t do it!” he jokes. “You’ll just decrease my chances of winning again!” Then, more seriously, he adds, “Honestly, there’s nothing to lose. It’s free, takes just a few moments, and could create memories that last a lifetime.”
