Travelodge has commissioned the UK’s first Instagrammable postcard to celebrate the opening of it’s 581st hotel- Liverpool Edge Lane.
The mural was commissioned following a survey carried out on over 2000 adults across the UK asking Britons what they thought made the city of Liverpool so great in regards to its famous icons, landmarks and the city’s greatest assets. Guests of the hotel can take their snaps in front of the 16ft high postcard which takes inspiration from some of the top regarded Liverpudlian traits as voted for by the public.
Liverpool is a world famous city oozing with culture, history, sport, style and of course it’s music with the city holding the Guinness World Record for Capital of Pop thanks to the iconic 1960’s band The Beatles who changed the face of popular music with their legacy still living on today. It’s no wonder then that The Beatles came out in 1st place in the survey of iconic Liverpudlian figures and are feature heavily in the postcard.
Taking second place is Cilla Black OBE who dedicated over 50 years to show business, with legendary footballer Steven Gerrard MBE who spent the majority of his career playing for his home football team, Liverpool FC and also as club captain for the England national football team. Coming in 4th was Bill Shankly who was known fondly as a national hero for bringing world-renowned success to Liverpool FC, gaining promotion to the First Division and winning 3 League Championships. In 5th place was the iconic comedian Ken Dodd who was well known for his tickling sticks and for his career in the entertainment industry.
Alongside its musical legacy, Liverpool is also home to the largest collection of Grade II-listed buildings outside of London with the Liver building coming out in 1st place among those surveyed and featuring at the front of the postcard. In 4th place was the Royal Albert Dock, part of the larger Liverpool Docks which dominated global trade by the 19th Century and still celebrates Liverpool’s heritage today. In 5th place The Cavern Club which is famous for its connections with The Beatles and as a place which still celebrates its legacy as being one of the most famous clubs in the world.
