Top 10 prides to attend in June 2022

It’s finally June, which commences the start of Pride celebrations across Britain. So get out your Pride flags, paint on the rainbows and release your inner drag queen!

So to help you make the most of the festivities, we’ve rounded up the top 10 Pride events that will be worth your while!

Pride in London
2nd July

Arguably the most iconic and largest of all of the Pride events across the UK, Pride in London is returning after a two-year hiatus for its 50th anniversary. Since the first London Pride in 1972 in response to the Stonewall Riots, Pride In London attracts more than a million people every year. The event is packed with exciting activities and events all across London, including their iconic Pride’s Got Talent showcasing emerging LGBT artists. The iconic parade will take place at lunchtime, with crowds travelling through the roads of Mayfair ending at Trafalgar Square, where the main stages, food stalls and celebrations will be held.

Manchester Pride
26th to 29th August

As one of the UK’s leading charities, Manchester Pride is a global movement celebrating LGBTQ+ equality and challenging discrimination across Britain. Their annual pride event is back and booming for 2022, with plenty of fun and exciting ways to get involved. In addition to their main parade with floats and groups marching through the heart of Manchester City Centre, they are also infamous for their Pride Festival which features many different well-known LGBTQ+ musicians. There is also the Gay Village – their world-famous pride hub with plenty of stalls, food stands and an exclusive Gay Village Party.

Brighton Pride
5th to 7th August

Well known as the LGBTQ capital of the UK, Brighton plays host to We Are Fabuloso, their iconic annual pride event. After a few years off due to COVID, the celebrations are back this year and bigger and better than before. With their iconic float parade through the town starting at Hove Lawns, they also have the pride village party which transforms the seafront into a venue for singing and dancing. With entertainment zones, bars, live performances, and cabaret all to raise money for LGBTQ charities, there will be plenty to do and explore over the weekend! If you’re looking to bring your furry friends, why not try out the Community day and dog show to pamper and celebrate your four legged friend!

Bristol Pride
9th July

Bristol Pride celebrations are celebrated from the 25th of June right up to the 11th of July, but the celebrations are out and at their best on Pride Day, the 9th of July. As one of the larger pride locations to have an interactive march instead of a float parade, members of the public are invited to join in with their signs and flags. The march travels from Castle Park to the Bristol Amphitheatre, their pride hub filled with entertainment stalls, food and drink stalls, and the main and side stage area. If you’re attending, remember to purchase a wristband which also gets you exclusive discounted prices at selected restaurants and bars on the night!

Pride Cymru (Cardiff)
27th and 28th August

As one of the largest pride events in Wales, Pride Cymru are back at City Hall for another year of support and celebrations. Hundreds of LGBTQ+ supporters have marched through the streets of Cardiff since 1985, and the parade has grown massively over the years welcoming people from all over the country to celebrate Cardiff’s LGBTQ scene. The parade takes place through the city centre, ending at city hall on the edge of town where the festivities are waiting at the pride market. There will be community and entertainment stalls, refreshments and the main stage.

Pride Edinburgh
25th June

Scotland’s longest-running Pride has returned after two years with its 25th anniversary. Being previously known under the name ‘Pride Scotia’ when Edinburgh and Glasgow were a combined unit, the charity is now known under Pride Edinburgh and has dramatically changed the Scottish LGBTQ+ scene over the years. This year’s celebrations start with a parade that is open to everyone, so bring your best flag and placard to support the cause. The parade runs through the centre of the city, ending at their community fair at the EUSA Campus complete with stalls and events to suit everyone’s tastes.

Pride Glasgow
25th June

Pride Glasgow has a rich history of celebrating pride throughout the Scottish city, where thousands come to celebrate equality and unite against discrimination. As well as the iconic parade through the city centre from Glasgow Green to Barclays Campus, this year’s event will have lots of collaborations from venues across the city as well as an exciting area for stalls and refreshments at the end of the parade. There is also a four-day program of events, including drag nights, a 70s disco, and a legendary street party.

Northern Pride (Newcastle)
23rd July

Northern Pride is back and better than ever for 2022. Held annually in Newcastle city centre, this day of celebration is something you shouldn’t be missing out on. With an exciting roundup of things to see and do including the iconic pride march starting at Newcastle Civic Centre and ending at the Town Moor, they also have a pride festival with tonnes of entertainment. Stalls galore and refreshment stands, as well as stages for upcoming artists and drag queens to perform throughout the day. Here will be the Rainbow Village, where you can support lots of local LGBT charities and causes.

Birmingham Pride
25th and 26th September

With the first event held in 1997, Birmingham Pride has been attracting supporters from all over the world for 24 years now. The ironic parade is the biggest part of the weekend celebrations, with thousands of participants, floats and spectators filling the streets of the city centre to celebrate unity and love. The celebrations will start at midday in the city centre, making their way to the LGBTQ+ Village where the main festival activities take place. The village will play host to the main stage, featuring performances from many artists including Cheryl Cole, Clean Bandit, and plenty of cabaret and drag queens as well as entertainment, refreshment and shopping stalls. Come along to support some local LGBTQ businesses and celebrate in the crowds!

Reading Pride
3rd September

After being formed in 2003 to unite and support the local LGBTQ+ community, Reading Pride is returning with a free pride-filled festival in 2022 at King’s Meadow. As well as their iconic pride parade, with floats and festivities making their way through Reading city centre, ending and arriving at the Love Unites Festival where there are guaranteed festivities to keep you entertained for the whole day. Including many stalls for local organisations, charities and supporters of the event, there are also refreshment and snack stalls as well as a funfair and a family area. There are also two stages, the main and extra stages which will be featuring artists, drag performances and dancing throughout the day.
