Sitting on the edge of the beautiful Chilterns, this leafy Buckinghamshire village is a peaceful place to stay outside London. One of its biggest plus-points is its transport links. It's conveniently located just off the M40 and M25 motorways, and only 20 minutes by train from the centre of London. It's also just a few miles from the charming town of Beaconsfield.

Nature lovers can breathe in the calming scenery of the rolling countryside that surrounds Gerrards Cross. Walk, cycle or even travel by boat with a cruise along the Thames. Spend a few hours in Black Park, next to Pinewood Studios. While you can't visit the movie set, you can film some wild escapades of your own in the park, with activities ranging from fishing to orienteering. Play ancient children's games

For a fantastic family day out, look no further than the Chiltern Open Air Museum. It has over 30 restored buildings on display, including an Iron Age house, Victorian earth cottage, blacksmith's forge and 1940s Prefab. Play with old children's games and listen out for the spirits of the wishing well. You can even 'spend a penny' in real Edwardian public toilets.
