Wisbech - capital of the Fens

This Cambridgeshire town is known for its elegant Georgian architecture, with many fashionable houses built along the Brinks of the river for wealthy bankers, merchants and warehouse owners in the 19th century. Stroll along the streets of the North and South Brinks to see some fine buildings, stopping off to explore Peckover House, once the home of a Quaker banking family. The Wisbech and Fenland Museum is one of the oldest museums in the country, and home to two historic libraries. Find the original manuscript of Charles Dickens' novel Great Expectations here.

Sample real ale at Elgood's Brewery

Another highlight of the North Brink is one of the first Georgian breweries to be built outside London. Elgood's has stood almost unchanged for more than 200 years. Discover how traditional English beer is made and sample some of Elgood's award-winning real ales on a brewery tour - or in one of the many pubs in town.
