Stunning Lakeland racing at Cartmel Racecourse

Cartmel Racecourse in the village of Cartmel in Cumbria, on the southernmost tip of the Lake District, holds just a few summer jump racing events, but attracts huge crowds. Also open for other events plus weddings and conferences, the racecourse also offers easy access to delightful Cartmel. Stop off at the historic priory and head into the village centre, home to some lovely independent shops. There are lots of great places to eat in Cartmel. At the top end is the famed Michelin-starred l'Enclume. When it comes to taking a slice of Cartmel home with you, The Cartmel Village Shop is home to its famous sticky toffee pudding and also makes up hampers full of goodies. Head to Unsworth's Yard Brewery which is home to more foodie delights.

From Cartmel Racecourse you're only 15 minutes' drive from Newby Bridge at the southern tip of Lake Windermere. There's lots of lovely walking or you can take a trip on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, which runs steam trains and has a stop at Nearby Lakeside.
