Cannons and cuckoos in Heathfield

Standing on a ridge amid beautiful rolling countryside in East Sussex, the affluent market town of Heathfield has magnificent views from the high street.

It was once at the centre of the iron industry, and became known for its cannon and guns. Old traditions are still celebrated in the town - a Cuckoo Fair is held every April to herald the arrival of spring. There's morris dancing, a funfair, music, a carnival parade and a barn dance.
