Make the right choices at Lewisham Shopping Centre

Formerly known as the Riverdale Centre, the Lewisham Shopping Centre in south-east London was opened in 1977 right in the heart of the borough's central area. There are currently plans to turn it into a residential block, but at the moment it's still the home of several big high street names. It's also easily accessible thanks to the local bus service and the proximity of a Docklands Light Railway station.

The Horniman Museum: a cornucopia of the weird and wonderful

If the cool and quirky float your boat, then the Horniman Museum is a must-see. Located a short journey from Lewisham at Forest Hill, it's an eclectic collection of curios opened to the public in 1901 in a stunning Arts & Crafts building. The grounds are also worth exploring thanks to the bandstand which has panoramic views and a 20ft totem pole.

Greenwich's maritime splendour - the Old Royal Naval College

Less than two miles from Lewisham is the Old Royal Naval College, a World Heritage Site at Greenwich. This iconic building was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and although originally constructed as a refuge for old and injured sailors, it is now home to a variety of seafaring exhibitions.
