Alexandra Palace - legendary home of entertainment

Located just over a mile from Turnpike Lane, Alexandra Palace is one of London's most iconic venues. 'Ally Pally' was first opened in 1873 and, among many milestones, hosted the first ever television broadcast in 1936. In the 1960s it was used by the counterculture to host the 14-Hour Technicolour Dream, where bands included Pink Floyd. These days, sporting events such as the Masters snookers tournament and World Darts Championship are held there, as well as entertainment shows like The X Factor.
