The cats of Whittington Hospital

Situated in the Archway area of North London, Whittington Hospital and its black car logo features many references to one of the capital's most famous Lord Mayors, and the hospital's namesake - Dick Whittington.

The surrounding area of Archway is a vibrant snapshot of London life; with barrow boys peddling fruit, veg and baked goods in local markets and the high street taverns that steer clear of the hipster invasion of Nearby neighborhoods.

Change through the ages

The hospital has gone through many guises over the past five and a half centuries. It was originally a leper colony, way back in 1473 and later became a workhouse in 1900, before transforming into a nursing home. Whittington Hospital as you see it today was opened in 1948.

Highgate's historical tomb

The hospital is close to Hampstead Heath and Highgate Cemetery which is home to the tomb of the revolutionary political theorist, Karl Marx.
