Tour historic Hereford

Historic Hereford Racecourse dates back to the late 18th century, and is located just north of the ancient cathedral city itself. The stunning Grade I listed cathedral was built Nearly 800 years ago, and houses the world-renowned Mappa Mundi, a priceless medieval map of the world. Lovers should head to the banks of the Wye River, which runs through the city, for a beautiful and romantic picnic overlooking the picturesque Wye Bridge.

Walk the Wye Valley

Hereford is only 10 minutes' drive from the gorgeous Wye Valley. One of the UK's largest woodlands, it's a magnet for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers, but also history buffs, thanks to the fascinating medieval St Briavels Castle. Anglers flock for some of the country's best river fishing. Book worms should make the short drive east to Hay-On-Wye, which hosts a world-renowned literature festival each spring.

Discover lovely Ludlow

Around 40 minutes' north of Hereford sits Ludlow, whose restored castle is a stunning Norman-era fort with delightful views from the ramparts. For a romantic picnic spot, head for the banks of the River Teme in view of the handsome Dinham Bridge. The Nearby Shropshire Hills offer charming villages and lush green countryside stitched together with tranquil waterways.
