Off to market in Darwen

Set in rugged Lancashire countryside Near Blackburn, Darwen is a pretty town well known for its wonderful indoor market. Open six days a week in an indoor Victorian market setting, there are more than 130 stalls plying a range of wares from the traditional fresh meat, fish and veg to haberdashery, flowers and men's clothes. Bustling with eateries where you can stop and have a rest, and free onsite parking, it's a must-visit. While in Darwen it's well worth a walk to the Jubilee Tower, built to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Walk to the tower through picturesque Bold Venture Park where there's a kids' playground, and climb up to admire fabulous views. Golfers are also well catered for in Darwen with a course just on the doorstep.

Hop on the train to Manchester

Darwen is only 40 minutes by train to Manchester, the north-west's capital of cool. With its happening music scene, fabulous galleries and laid-back vibe, it's a great place to visit. There are so many great pubs and clubs it's hard to pick one but Sankey's is nationally reputed.
