Idyllic country weddings at Irnham Hall

Nestled in a South Lincolnshire valley just off the A1, around 12 miles from Grantham, Irnham Hall is a centuries-old mansion specialising in weddings. Irnham village itself is well worth exploring if you're in the area for someone's big day. Wander past quaint estate cottages, admire the scenic hills in the background and stop for a pint in the award-winning Griffin Pub.

It all began with an apple

Woolsthorpe Manor was the birthplace of famous scientist Sir Isaac Newton. Around 15 minutes' drive away, The National Trust run property is well worth a visit to see the famous apple tree which allowed Newton to formulate his theory of gravity. You can explore Newton's theories further at the Science Centre on site. This area is rich in beautiful houses to visit with Belvoir Castle and Belton House both around half an hour away by car. Get lost in the maze at Belton, also run by the National Trust, and admire the sheer spectacle of Belvoir. Check the website before visiting as it's only open at certain times.

Water fun at Rutland Water

For peaceful walks and bike rides, Rutland Water around half an hour away is a lovely spot, or for something a bit more adventurous, younger visitors will enjoy Twinlakes Theme Park at Melton Mowbray which has some thrilling rides.
