Charing Cross - in the heart of London

Charing Cross has long been cited as the centre of London, and it's certainly the perfect location for exploring some of the city's main attractions. From the station, you're within walking distance of Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Buckingham Palace and Whitehall. Need more reasons to visit? A 10-minute walk gets you to the centre of Westminster, with various sight-seeing opportunites including Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

A spot of culture at the National Gallery

Marvel at the works of the greats at the National Gallery. With over 2,000 paintings on display by the likes of da Vinci and Van Gogh, there's plenty to explore. The collection ranges from the Middle Ages to the present day, and the gallery regularly holds special exhibitions focusing on specific artists. The National Portrait Gallery is on your doorstep, too, and displays the portraits of some of the most important people to influence British society, from kings and queens to film stars. Both galleries are free to enter, but prices apply for special exhibitions.

Visit the Founding Father of America

For something different to do while you're in Charing Cross, visit the Benjamin Franklin House. This museum is the only remaining residence of Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States. Visitors can explore all three floors of the 18th century house to experience how Franklin lived during his time in London. Planning a trip to Charing Cross? Travelodge Covent Garden is just a short walk away from Charing Cross Station. Our Waterloo hotel, just across the river, is also a great budget choice, close to the vibrant Southbank Centre.
