Things to do in and around Thornton Heath

Although just a short train ride from the centre of London and all that the capital has to offer, there's still plenty to see and do in and around Thornton Heath. Explore the eclectic collections at the Horniman Museum and Gardens in Forest Hill; with lots of interesting exhibitions and galleries including natural history, anthropology and music, plus an aquarium and botanical gardens. For the sport fans, watch a match at Nearby Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace football club.

The great outdoors

Just down the road from Thornton Heath is Streatham Common, a large open space with great views and a variety of different habitats, including woodland, grassland and wild flower meadows. A popular place for walking, jogging and sports, part of the common has been declared a Local Nature Reserve, making it a perfect place for some wildlife spotting.

Family fun

Walk among dinosaurs at the Nearby Crystal Palace Park, home to 30 full-scale model dinosaurs. With a children's play area, farm, fishing lake and a maze, the park is a great day out for all the family. Visit the Brockwell Park Miniature Railway for a ride on its unique Intercity 125 or LNER Y6 Tram Engines. Open on Sundays between March and October, travel from Herne Hill Gates to the Brockwell Lido.
