Visit 'God's Own Country'

Comprising over 550 square miles of heather moorland, the North York Moors is a bleakly beautiful national park which has inspired countless artists and served as the backdrop to many a TV show or movie - from Heartbeat to Harry Potter.

Take a trip back in time

While a car is recommended to visit many of the park's towns and small villages, a trip on the steam-operated North Yorkshire Moors Railway line simply can't be beaten. Running from Pickering to Whitby, with stops along the way including the picturesque Goathland and Levisham, it really is a slice of living history.

Enjoy the serenity of a woodland walk

Dalby Forest towards the south of the park is a magnificent woodland area, well maintained and featuring visitors centres, gift shops, artists' studios and cafes. It's excellent for hiking, cycling, birdwatching (kingfishers can be found hunting along the babbling streams) or even just a gentle stroll.

Planning a trip to the North York Moors National Park? Travelodge Scarborough St Nicholas Hotel lies at the southeastern edge of the park, in the seaside town of Scarborough. Towards the north, Travelodge Middlesborough Hotel and Travelodge Darlington Hotel are good options.
