The heart of Midsomer country

Nestled between Oxford and Aylesbury on the edge of the Chilterns, this leafy market town is big on tradition, with cosy pubs, fancy boutiques and a popular street market. Fans of Midsomer Murders may recognise some of the locations from the hit TV crime show as filming takes place in the town. You'll be reassured to know that Thame is much safer than the fictional town of Causton though

Take the Phoenix Trail

Walk or cycle along the 5-mile disused railway line to the small town of Princes Risborough, keeping your eyes peeled for soaring red kites and squirrels scampering around. There are also 30 artworks to admire along the way, not to mention the stunning scenery of the Chilterns. Settle back for a well-earned coffee and cake when you reach the end of the trail.

Enjoy a day trip to Oxford

Famed for its dreaming spires, the university city is a must-visit. Culture vultures should check out the Ashmolean Museum and Bodleian Library, both of which are free to go in. Why not see Oxfordshire from the water with a cruise along the river? Hire a punt or ride on a steamboat. Planning a trip to Thame? Travelodge Thame is just a short walk from the town centre. Further afield, Travelodge Oxford Wheatley is on the outskirts of Oxford.
