Ethical arts at the Green Man Festival

The Green Man Festival in the Brecon Beacons is a sprawling multi-arts festival spanning four days in August. It's an independent, anti-corporate event attracting crowds of up to 20,000 with many acts performing on multiple stages. With the dramatic burning of the Green Man as a finale, big names to have appeared here include rock legend Robert Plant, writer Caitlin Moran and comedian Rhod Gilbert.

Exploring the beautiful Brecon Beacons

The Brecon Beacons National Park is home to some of England's prettiest countryside. The attractive town of Crickhowell is just next door and has independent shops to nosey around plus 'olde worlde' inns in which to enjoy a quiet pint. Don't miss the 18th century bridge spanning the River Usk. Explore the region's industrial heritage at Blaenavon, home to the Big Pit National Coal Museum which has free entry. Abergavenny is renowned for excellent local food or for another local export seek out the Penderyn Distillery. Need to stretch your legs? The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is lovely for a stroll, or for something more energetic go for a hike up Pen Y Fan, a mountain offering great views from the top.
