A truly historic village

Tucked away in the Gryffe Valley this pretty Renfrewshire village is a conservation area thanks to its rich and varied history. The area is dotted with traditional white houses dating back to the 17th century and you can explore�the remains of the 16th-century Houston Castle which�are in the grounds of Houston House. History buffs will also love the Barochan Cross, an 8th-century Celtic Christian cross, and the Craigends Yew, an ancient yew tree which is supposedly the oldest living thing in the entire region.

Houston is home to its own microbrewery, the Houston Brewing Company, based in the Fox and Hounds village pub. With a variety of brews on offer, it's well worth popping in for a pint, or even try and time�your visit to coincide with the annual beer festival.
