A historic market town with a centuries-old football game
A historic gem in the heart of England, come to Atherstone for a slice of times past - the route running through the town is the famous Roman Road Watling Street. Visit in February to catch the anarchic Shrove Tuesday Football Game in which thousands fight over a ball in a tradition lasting more than 800 years. History lovers will also enjoy a trip to the famous Tudor battlefield at Bosworth which has a heritage centre around a 20 minute drive away.
Monkeying around at Twycross Zoo
At less than 15 minutes drive away Twycross Zoo is a famous World Primate Centre with lots of monkeys and apes to see, and the UK's only group of bonobos. The zoo also welcomed twin baby snow leopards in April 2017 with a slide show of pictures available should they not venture outside the den.
