Take in the glory of Goodwood

The West Sussex racecourse of Goodwood, north of Chichester, is one of the jewels in the crown of British flat racing. Home to not only the Goodwood Cup but also the Nassau Stakes, the Stewards' Cup and the Sussex Stakes, as well as a host of other high-profile races throughout the season, it's an absolute must for any fans of the 'sport of kings'.

Swap four legs for four wheels

Nearby Goodwood House, a Grade I listed building, is the home of the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed - as well as the Goodwood Circuit, which hosts the annual Goodwood Revival festival of historic motor racing. When no high-octane events are taking place, it's still worth visiting the estate to sample the stunning grounds and the property itself.

Head to the city

Chichester, five miles south, is West Sussex's only city, and as such is a tempting prospect for visitors to the area. It's a beautiful and historic location, with excellent opportunities for shopping and eating out. The theatre scene is good, too, with Chichester Festival Theatre comprising one of the country's leading touring theatres.

Planning a trip to Goodwood Racecourse? Travelodge Chichester Central Hotel is convenient for the racecourse, and ideal for those hoping to take in Chichester's atmosphere. Travelodge Arundel Fontwell Park Hotel (to the east) is also worth investigating.
