Peacocks and Poldark in rural Wiltshire

Close to Bath and Chippenham, this historic market town sits on the edge of the Cotswolds and is surrounded by idyllic countryside. The town has been in the spotlight recently as Corsham high street doubles as 18th-century Truro for the filming of Poldark. Fans of the hit BBC series can follow in the footsteps of Ross and Demelza here.

Marvel at Corsham Court

The historic high street isn't just for Poldark aficionados though. It has lots to admire, not least country house Corsham Court, set in gardens designed by Capability Brown. It's home to an impressive collection of old masters, porcelain and furniture. You might also notice some rather noisy and colourful residents. Peacocks sometimes roam the street and gardens.

Nearby Castle Combe is often described as the prettiest village in England, and is definitely worth a visit to photograph its honey-coloured stone houses and wonderful views from the bridge. On the edge of the village is the Castle Combe Circuit, where motorsport events are held throughout the year. You can also drive your own car or motorbike around the circuit or tackle the rally course. Looking for a cheap hotel Near Corsham?
